The Benefits of Regular Dental Cleanings
February 17, 20223 Reasons To Keep Up On Your Teeth Cleaning
April 13, 2022It’s hard not to want perfect white teeth when every model and celebrity you see have them. Toothpaste brands and other companies have products that help to whiten teeth, but how do we prevent yellowing in the first place? Whitening can cause damage to the enamel, which is why we should try to achieve pearly whites more naturally. Here are a few ways you can prevent future tooth stains.
What causes teeth staining?
Tooth stains are caused by lifestyle activities and typically don’t occur without some other external factor (with the exception of aging, certain illnesses, and some medications). Many of the foods we eat cause yellowing, such as coffee, wine, soda, tea, and even some types of pasta and potatoes. Smoking and chewing tobacco are also huge contributors to staining. The residue from these items causes a build-up that covers the enamel, making teeth appear discolored.
How to prevent it
Now that we know what causes staining, we need to figure out how to prevent it. You probably don’t want to cut out all of the yummy foods in your life, and we don’t expect you to! It all comes back to properly taking care of your teeth. Of course, if you can, you should limit how often you’re consuming these drinks/foods. But if you can’t avoid it, be sure to brush your teeth after consumption, in the morning, and before bed. Carry a straw with you to prevent tooth contact with sugary drinks. And, be sure to floss every day. Doing all of these things will help prevent your teeth from yellowing while still allowing you to enjoy your favorite foods.
